Tianjin University was one of the earliest institutions to start graduate education in China. The first batch of students studying abroad on government’s support were graduates from Peiyang University. It began to enroll the first batch of postgraduates in 1935. In 1984, Tianjin University became the first of 22 universities of trialing a Graduate School. With the motto of “serve for the needs and improve the quality” and the focus on “construction and strengthening of discipline”, Tianjin University conducted postgraduate education based entirely on the education policy of our Party, adhering to the principle of rejuvenating our country through education, promoting a spirit of rigorous scholarship, following the tradition of dedication and patriotism, and putting the “ Fostering of Morality and Cultivating the Students Growth” as its fundamental task. Over years of unremitting effort, it has basically formed a graduate education system with a superior structure a distinctive characteristic of guaranteeing the cultivation of quality growth,, and has become an important base for cultivating postgraduates in China.
