On the morning of May 12, the 2nd press conference on Tiankai Higher Education Innovation Park (Tiankai Park) was held. Jin Donghan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Tianjin University (TJU), introduced TJU’s efforts to the establishment of Tiankai Park and the first batch of projects settled in.
TJU attaches great importance to the establishment of Tiankai Park. The University encourages faculty, students and alumni from all sectors to start businesses in Tiankai Park. Meanwhile, TJU continues to deepen cooperation with alumni entrepreneurs, provide careful "one-stop" services for the first batch of settled projects, and work to optimize the environment for innovation and entrepreneurship with TJU features.
TJU is currently the only one university in Tianjin with a national-level science park. Since 2021, Tianjin University Science Parks in Nankai District and in Jinnan District were successively launched with a floor area of 26,000 square meters. As of April 30 of this year, the science park has already attracted 150 enterprises, with 40 more planning to move in, and 10 of settled enterprises have received equity investment totaling over 180 million yuan. Tianjin University reviewed experience in building the Tianjin University Science Parks, and proposed the Tiankai Park’s model of “university guidance, government support and enterprise operation”. The key to successful entrepreneurship relies on joint efforts of scientists, investors and entrepreneurs, as well as concerted efforts of venture capital fund group, university science park, and entrepreneurship club. In doing so, TJU has succeeded in exploring a new path for the construction of high-quality university science park.
Considering Tianjin’s industrial needs, TJU has selected the first batch of 28 high-quality projects from more than 100 alternative ones to launch in Tiankai Park. These projects cover a wide range of areas including new energy materials, high-end equipment manufacturing, Internet of Things, big data, artificial intelligence, and biomedicine, among others. There are also 34 projects selected into the reserve pool. TJU will continue to track and evaluate their technology readiness, and introduce high-quality ones to Tiankai Park as soon as possible.
According to President Jin Donghan, TJU’s active participation in the construction of Tiankai Park is not only a strategic move to promote Tianjin’s high-quality development, but also an important avenue to breed innovation and accelerate the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements. In the future, TJU will continue to enhance the top-level design, focus on the distribution of key industries in Tianjin, pool the strength of alumni entrepreneurs, gather resources of entrepreneurship, effectively accumulate innovation factors, give full play to the disciplinary advantages, promote collaborative innovation, so as to create a more open and inclusive environment for innovation and entrepreneurship, and to accelerate the formation of TJU’s model of innovation and entrepreneurship.
