 Campus

The College of Management and Economics celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2024, marking four decades of pioneering achievements in management education in China.

Established in 1984 as one of China's first four management schools, the College has been both a witness to and active participant in China’s reform and opening-up era. Under the founding leadership of Prof. Liu Bao, a renowned expert in automatic control and systems engineering, the College set out to revolutionize management education in China.

The College has maintained discipline construction as its primary focus, integrating engineering, economics, and management to build an organically structured and mutually supportive cluster of management disciplines. Guided by the university motto “Seeking Truth from Facts,” the College has consistently upheld its “dual rigorous” policy of “rigorous scholarship” and “strict teaching requirements,” while maintaining the educational philosophy of “teaching as foundation, equal emphasis on teaching and research, and promoting teaching through research.”

The College has successfully pioneered numerous “firsts” in China:

  • First batch of master's and doctoral programs in Systems Engineering

  • First undergraduate programs in Industrial Management Engineering, Basic Construction Management Engineering, Industrial Engineering,International Engineering Management, Engineering Cost Management

  • First master's programs in Real Estate and Construction Project Management

  • First key discipline in Systems Engineering (renamed to Management Science and Engineering in 1997)

  • First batch of MBA, MPA, and EMBA programs

Throughout the history of management education in China, TJU’s College of Management and Economics has contributed to every major “first,” leaving an indelible mark on the development of management education in the country.

Recent achievements showcase the College’s continued excellence:

  • All nine undergraduate programs ranked A-level or above in the 2023 ShanghaiRanking

  • Top national rankings in Confidential Management and Logistics Engineering

  • Management Science and Engineering discipline ranked 2nd nationally

  • Triple crown accreditation (AACSB, AMBA, CAMEA) for Business Administration

From its humble beginnings with 40 faculty members, the College has grown to a comprehensive institution with over 300 staff members. The 2009 departmental reorganization further strengthened its position, establishing four main disciplines: Management Science and Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration, and Applied Economics.

As former State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission Chairman Li Rongrong once encouraged, the College continues to "uphold the tradition of seeking truth from facts while striving to become a world-renowned management school."

This 40th anniversary marks not just a celebration of past achievements but a commitment to future excellence in management education and research.
