 Arts and Culture

As Tianjin University approaches its 130th anniversary, the institution hosted its 16th annual School Anthem and History Performance Contest under the theme “Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future.” This event showcased 129 years of university history, inspiring students to cultivate patriotism and deepen their commitment to the nation.

Students presented original performances highlighting significant milestones in the university's history through four chapters: "National Empowerment Through Education," "The True Meaning of University," "Innovations in Education," and "Tianjin University’s Responsibility." The event opened with Sheng Xuanhuai’s famous words, “True strength lies in cultivating talent,” as historical scenes unfolded, illustrating the university’s dedication to education and national development.

The performances depicted pivotal moments, including the founding of Peiyang University, the creation of the university anthem, and inspiring alumni stories. Key highlights included Zhang Tailei’s contributions to early youth movements, Wu Ziliang’s work in aerospace technology, and the "Dream-Building" initiative, where Tianjin University students have supported rural revitalization projects. Each scene underscored the university’s legacy of innovation, service, and responsibility.

This immersive experience resonated deeply with the audience of over 200 faculty and students. Peng Siyu, an undergraduate from the School of Humanities and Arts, remarked, “The stories in our textbooks seemed to come alive on stage. I now feel a stronger connection to Tianjin University's tradition of patriotism.”

Pan Gang, Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Department, highlighted the contest’s significance in fostering patriotism. “The School Anthem and History Performance Contest integrates historical storytelling into education, encouraging students to embrace their cultural identity and develop a profound sense of responsibility.”

For 16 years, Tianjin University has leveraged this event to connect students with its history, emphasizing its mission to nurture future leaders. Moving forward, the university plans to further innovate its patriotic education efforts, fostering a new generation committed to national rejuvenation.
