On December 9, 2024, Professor Yoshimichi Ohki, a distinguished expert in the field of electrical insulation from Waseda University, Japan, visited Tianjin University and was officially awarded as an Honorary Professor.
The conferment ceremony took place in the conference hall of the Weijin Road Campus. The ceremony was attended by Vice President Ming Dong, Dean of the School of Electrical and Information Engineering Tan Chao, Vice Dean Zhang Tao, Professor Du Boxue of the High Voltage and Insulation Technology Laboratory, as well as all faculty and students of the research team. Liu Qiang, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, presided over the ceremony.
During the ceremony, Prof. Du Boxue highlighted Prof. Ohki’s outstanding academic achievements and his ongoing collaborations with Tianjin University. Vice President Ming Dong presented Prof. Ohki with the Tianjin University Honorary Professor Certificate. In his acceptance speech, Prof. Ohki expressed his gratitude to Tianjin University and shared his vision for future collaborations with the university.
After the awarding ceremony, Prof. Ohki delivered an inspiring academic lecture entitled "Attracted to Dielectric Materials Research". He engaged in in-depth discussions with faculty and students on key issues and challenges in the field of electrical insulation.
Prof. Ohki’s appointment as an Honorary Professor of Tianjin University will further enhance the university’s international collaboration in the field of electrical insulation. This appointment is of great significance in consolidating and leveraging the university’s research strengths in this domain.
Prof. Yoshimichi Ohki is a leading authority in the field of electrical insulation. He is currently a professor at Waseda University, Japan, and a fellow of both IEEE an IEEJ. For decades, he has been dedicated to research on high-performance electrical insulation materials, nanocomposite dielectrics and so on, earning an outstanding academic reputation and significant impact worldwide.
Prof. Ohki has held prestigious positions, including Chair of the IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society (DEIS) Japan Chapter, Chair of the Japanese Electrotechnical Committee, and member of many international advisory boards. He was a recipient of many awards, including the Whitehead Memorial Lecture Award from the IEEE DEIS, the Prize for Science and Technology awarded by the Minister of Education of Japan, the Thomas W. Dakin Distinguished Technical Contribution Award from the IEEE DEIS, etc.
